Fall is my favorite time of year and I love how it just rolls into the holidays. I will share some cute, inexpensive decor I found & a couple tips.
Can you believe it is almost fall! I am so excited to finally enjoy some cooler weather. Even though here in Vegas it takes a while for it to really cool down. The weird thing about Vegas weather is you think that it is finally cooling down. All the signs will be there that the weather is now in your favor. But watch out, all of a sudden you will have a section of days that just surprise you with the heat. Fingers crossed the weather doesn’t try and trick us this year.
My birthday is on the official start of fall, September 22nd. I’m a Virgo and yup, I love astrology. I usually just link certain personality traits I have to being a Virgo. Hehe. I may treat myself and get my favorite drink at Starbucks (if it’s not too warm). Caramel apple spice is my favorite and it just doesn’t compare to any other apple cider out there! My sweet husband already bought me my birthday present. Over the last couple of years, we have realized it is much easier to have the other person help pick out their gift. So this year I got a beautiful Fossil watch.
Okay, back to fall. I fall victim (seriously no pun intended), every … single … year to buying more holiday decorations that I really don’t need. Maybe it’s just me but I’ve noticed that a lot of stores are pulling out their holiday items a lot earlier than last year. Maybe it’s a smart move since I go into all these stores and it gives me more opportunity to buy goodies. Dangit!
This year my store of choice is Home Goods. Most of my decorative items come from Home Goods, Ross, or Marshalls. Sometimes I find things at Hobby Lobby too. My favorite area to decorate is the living room. It is so enjoyable to see the holiday spirit in our common area, especially the Christmas tree. As of right now we haven’t pulled out all of our fall décor but I was able to put together some of my new goodies. I am also excited to share some more freebies! These are staged photos so -sadly- this is not what my home currently looks like. One day I hope to have the white & grey theme lively up our home completely. Our home décor has a lot of browns & reds so it will be slow transition. But for now the baby steps will have to do.
I knew my color scheme was going to be lighter colors with lots of white. Adding a touch of orange makes it feel more like fall. I envisioned seeing the pop of color with the pumpkins Side note: my absolute favorite flower is a ranunculus. I was surprised to see Michaels carries a faux version. So of course I had to swoop in and grab some of those. A set of white & a set of orange.
This is a side table that is usually decorated with family pictures during the (non-holiday) seasons. Adding a personal touch with a family photo or photo of the kids makes it feel more like a home rather than a decorated house. The two frames I use year-round but I constantly switch out the photos. I found the white frame at Hobby Lobby awhile back and the other frame was a gift for our wedding. The pictures inside are part of the freebies for this post. So please share if you like them and don’t forget to tag me in anything you use them in. I would love to see!
I am in love with the new style of pumpkins I am seeing this year. Especially these with the little cut outs. They are simple enough to add with any color scheme you may be going for. But are also unique that you don’t need to add much else. The single orange pumpkin -by Nicole Miller Home- was bought from Home Goods for $6.99. The 3 stacked pumpkins -by Nicole Miller Home- were $7.99.
Mirrored furniture is so unique and also another favorite. (And extremely hard to photograph. Hehe) It is so classy and can really be used in many ways. Lets hope it is a trend that stays around for a bit.
Let’s not forget a decorating must, candles! I grew up with my mom always making sure the house smelled good using candles. I personally have a huge fear of fire and rarely light the candles I own. They are mostly there for decoration. The weird thing is that I still make sure they smell good even though I probably won’t ever light it. The orange candle is a Yankee candle -Maple Leaf- that smells amazing! I found it at Home Goods for only $7.99. The white candle is by Apothecary Blends -Tangerine + Jasmine- that is not too heavy of a smell but still sweet. I also found this at Home Goods for $5.99.
Wood decor is essential in our household. My husband is an amazing carpenter (not by trade) and has built some surprising items for our home whenever he finds extra time. That is for another post since he has made some awesome furniture pieces. This wood pumpkin grabbed my attention right away. I love that it is not perfectly shaped and has a rustic look to it. I found this at Michaels for $6.
These freebies were so fun to create and am looking forward to doing more for the other holidays. You can download them for free without the watermark.
